Is the HDFC Millennia Worth It in 2026? Honest Review

Quick verdict: worth it if you spend regularly at the ten partner brands and can clear Rs 1,00,000 a year. Skip it if a big share of your spending is fuel, rent or wallet top-ups, because on those the Millennia earns you nothing at all, not the 1% almost every review claims.

What’s good about the HDFC Millennia

The headline rate is real: 5% cashback across ten named brands, which is a genuinely wide list. HDFC’s own terms name them exactly: Amazon, BookMyShow, Cult.fit, Flipkart, Myntra, Sony LIV, Swiggy, Tata CLiQ, Uber and Zomato. The annual fee is Rs 1,000, and it’s waived entirely once you spend Rs 1,00,000 in a year, a threshold most regular users clear without trying. Cashback comes back as CashPoints worth Rs 1 each, redeemed straight against your statement once you have at least 500 of them. If those ten brands already make up a meaningful share of your spending, this card earns its keep.

The catch nobody mentions

Five common spending categories earn zero. Not a reduced rate. Zero.

Read HDFC’s own cashback table and the 1% row carries a parenthetical most reviews drop: other spends, except fuel, EMI, wallet loads, rent payments and government-related transactions. Those five earn no cashback whatsoever. Fuel and rent alone are a large share of a typical Indian household’s card spend, and if that describes you, the Millennia is not a 1% card on that money. It is a 0% card on it.

A few more that are easy to miss, all from the same document:

  • Education paid through third-party apps earns nothing since 1 September 2024. Pay the college or school directly, on their own website or card machine, and it does earn.
  • Gift cards and vouchers earn the 1%, and HDFC’s terms are untidy about it. Two places in the current T&C, published 20 July 2026, put gift card and voucher purchases in the other-spends bucket that earns 1%, including the footnote to HDFC’s own rate table. A third clause says they earn nothing. What settles it is what HDFC actually changed in July: they edited the eligible list and removed wallet loads from it, while leaving gift cards and vouchers in. So we are telling you the 1% reading, because it is the one their own edit supports, and telling you the third clause exists, because it does. A bank can enforce the clause you did not read. If gift-card spend is a real part of your budget, get HDFC to confirm it in writing.
  • EMI spends are excluded from the 5% entirely, not just from the base rate.
  • Domestic airport lounge access was withdrawn from this card on 1 December 2023, so ignore any older review that still lists it.

Then the caps. The 5% tier stops at Rs 1,000 of cashback a month, the 1% tier stops at another Rs 1,000, so Rs 2,000 a month is the ceiling no matter how much you put through the card. The 5% headline is what gets this card recommended everywhere. The exclusion list and the caps are what decide whether it actually pays you.

Our verdict

Worth it if: you regularly shop at the ten partner brands, your monthly spend on them stays within the Rs 1,000 cashback cap, and you can clear Rs 1,00,000 a year to waive the fee.

Not worth it if: a large share of your spending is fuel, rent, wallet top-ups or EMI. Those earn nothing on this card, so the Millennia is not merely unexciting for that spend, it is actively the wrong card to put it on.
