Is the Amazon Pay ICICI Card Worth It in 2026? Honest Review

What’s good about the Amazon Pay ICICI
It’s lifetime free. ICICI’s own terms put it plainly: there is no joining or annual fee for this card, ever. Prime members earn 5% back on Amazon, non-Prime members earn 3%. There’s a 2% tier on digitally fulfilled categories, “login and pay with Amazon Pay” transactions and physical gift cards, and 1% on other purchases. For the cost of zero rupees, that’s hard to beat as a starter or second card.
The catch nobody mentions
Three things, and the third is the one that will actually cost you money.
First, the 5% needs Amazon Prime. Without it you’re on 3%, still decent, but noticeably below the headline rate everyone quotes.
Second, the rewards are not cash. They’re credited as Amazon Pay balance, spendable only on Amazon. If you don’t shop there regularly, that “cashback” is worth a good deal less to you than the number suggests.
Third, and this is the one to check against your own statement: a long list of everyday spends earns absolutely nothing on this card. ICICI’s terms exclude all of the following from rewards entirely:
- Rent and fuel
- Utility bills paid anywhere outside Amazon
- Education payments
- All international transactions
- Tax payments
- Gold, silver and other precious metals
- Anything on EMI. Worse, if you convert a spend to EMI later, the rewards you already earned on it are clawed back.
Even inside Amazon there are carve-outs: Amazon Gold Coins and travel bookings for flights and hotels through Amazon Pay don’t earn the 5% or 3% either.
Put together, that means the familiar line about this being “1% on everything else” is simply not true. It’s 1% on everything else that isn’t rent, fuel, utilities, education, international, tax, precious metals or EMI. For a lot of people that exclusion list covers a bigger share of their spending than Amazon does.
Our verdict
Worth it if: you shop on Amazon regularly, ideally with Prime, and you’re comfortable with rewards that come back as Amazon Pay balance rather than cash. At zero fee, it costs you nothing to hold alongside a better all-rounder.
Not worth it as your only card if: a meaningful share of your spending is rent, fuel, utilities, education or international. Those earn nothing here, so this card would quietly pay you zero on the very spending you most want rewarded.
